Quiessence is a Magnesium (Mg) based feed supplement. As well as providing much needed Magnesium for the body, the supplement provides synergistic B vitamins.

* Horses whose main diet consists of processed feed stuff
* Horses who have problems gaining or maintaining weight
* Horses prone to or at risk of founder
* Horses prone to cresty necks
* Horses with nerve conditions
* Nervous, high-strung horses
* Horses with neurological conditions such as EPM
* Horses with attention-deficit tendencies
Why supplement with Magnesium for dietary concerns such as laminitis, obesity or cresty necks? According to the Horse Journal's January 2001 article "Cresty and Laminitic? give 'Em Magnesium," "[diet] is important in overcoming and controling insulin resistance." Insulin resistance is a key factor to why horses and ponies become overweight, develop cresty necks and suffer laminitis in times of rapid young grass growth, such as in the spring and fall. The test group of horses in this article all showed a reduction in weight and crestiness with magnesium supplements and Quiessence was found to be especially useful for horses on a hay-only diet. Then in their February 2002 issue, the Horse Journal names Quiessence as "our favorite magnesium supplement, as it's pelleted and palatable."
Why supplement with Magnesium for nerve conditions? Magnesium is a mineral closely associated with neuromuscular function. Magnesium deficiencies usually show up as nervousness, muscular tension, an inability to relax muscles post-work, irritability, over-stimulation and poor memory retention. Modern day diets are often low in Magnesium and the high stress style of some equines leads to an increased need for Magnesium. Areas with acid soils and soft water may not provide enough Magnesium in water and soil for the needs of performance horses. Magnesium works in close concert with Potassium(K) and Calcium(Ca) in cells, and a deficiency of Magnesium will often result in low interstitial K and the corresponding symptoms. The muscles are the main body store for Magnesium, and if there is a deficiency in the diet the body will draw Magnesium from the muscles. If enough is withdrawn, muscle Magnesium levels will drop and result in neuromuscular problems.
Feed Quiessence if your horse can be described as one or more of the following :
* Nervous, tense horses which show an inability to learn and concentrate will often show improvement if supplemented with Magnesium.
* Horses which tend to have tight tense muscles, are slow to warm up and have 'sore' or 'tight' backs, can also show improvement if Magnesium is supplied.
* Horses which are in work, kept in stables and fed on preserved and processed foodstuffs often benefit from Magnesium supplementation in their diets.
* Horses who are easy keepers and on a hay-only diet
* Horses prone to or with a history of laminitis
* Horses with cresty necks
* Horses whose weight is hard to manage either from low weight or obesity - this supplement serves to balance out their nutrient needs
Quiessence provides 5g of elemental Magnesium per 1 oz.(28g) and is a safe, reliable source of Magnesium.
